Certaldo

We loved this property. It is simply but comfortably furnished, exactly as shown in the pictures, and was a very pleasant place to stay for a few days. We really appreciated the high ceilings, shutters, and air-con, which helped keep the apartment cool in a hot week, and the sofa-bed was surprisingly comfy! The tower is a very cool extra with great views, and the location is fabulous - right in the heart of Certaldo Aldo, which was pleasingly peaceful compared with some other better-known Tuscan towns but utterly lovely, and with some great places to eat just a minute or two's walk from the apartment. Jane was a helpful and friendly host, and we found it a great base for a few days exploring the delights of Tuscany. Definitely recommended.

Beautiful, clean apartment in the heart of the beautiful village in Toscana. Great view and location if you enjoy a peaceful stay here.

Die Ferienwohnung befindet sich auf dem Burgberg von Certaldo.
Dieser Befindet sich in der ZTL Zone. Das eigene KFZ-Kennzeichen wird von den Vermietern im Vorfeld angemeldet. Ein abgesperrter und für die Mieter kostenloser Parkplatz befindet sich im Innenhof der Anlage.
Die Vermieterin ist sehr freundlich, die Wohnung sauber und alles darin zu finden was es für den Aufhalt braucht.
In unmittelbarer nähe gibt es einige Restaurants, eine Eisdiele und auch ein kleines Geschäft für die wichtigsten Lebenmittel. In der Nebensaison sind die Öffnungszeit aber telweise schlecht. In der "Unterstadt" findet mann aber auch genügend Restaurants und Geschäfte.

If you have always wanted to stay in a castle this place is for you! The tower that overlooks all of Certaldo, the surrounding countryside and even a view of San Gimignano is stunning. Sitting in my tower with a glass of wine surveying all truly made me feel like a Queen. But castles have stairs and security doors and complicated ways to get in and out. Also castles traditionally don’t have great Wi-Fi. If none of this bothers you you will LOVE it here! The funiculare easily takes you up and down from basso and it is very handy to the train station. Everyone in Alto is lovely and so kind and every single restaurant is fabulous, especially Osteria del Vicario, Antica Fonte and ill Castello. Pizzaria Boccaccio is great for a cheap casual dinner. I would happily live here! Jane is a wonderful hostess!

We've been there for the second time and it was perfect as before. Located in the historic upper Certaldo you're nearby every spot you may like to visit (Siena, Florence, Volterra etc. are just 40km away ;) ) without being forced to have wine or dinner in crowds at the end of the day - the osterias and restaurants in Certaldo are highly recommended. As cosy as Certaldo is, is the apartment. It's amazing to live in your "own" palace with a private tower, The owners are very helpful whenever you've got a question but keep distance when you need it, in the apartment itself, which is clean and light, we missed nothing. The best place to be when you stay in Tuscany, this is exactly the place you always were dreaming of!

Definitely excellent. Right in the old town. The old town is quietly touristy (?) so makes for a wonderful relaxing special stay.
The apartment we had had fabulous views over the main town and out to the countryside. It was well-appointed, clean and very well presented and our host, Jane, was very welcoming, friendly and considerate (as were her family).
Parking was no problem at all. We felt very special driving through the gates each day.
Negatives? I'd say it's a functional place to be, you can't really relax and enjoy the view, the sofa bed is much more a bed than a sofa. There are also quite a few stairs so if you're not good with stairs you'll probably find it difficult.
Big plus? Access to the tower where you can enjoy the view across the old town, new town and the countryside, even San Gimignano on the horizon.

Het appartement is eenvoudig. Als je zelf uitgebreid wolt kokenis er onvoldoende keukengerei. Maar met een uistekende enoteca en een restaurant om de hoek is zelf koken niet nodig. Ook inhet dorp eneden kun je prima terecht voor een fijne maaltijd. Halverwege onsverblijfwerktw de afstandsbedieni gvan de toegangsdeur niet meer,maar gukkigwaren de deuren met een sleutel te openen. Heerlijke tijd gehad,wij komen zeker eens terug!

This place was a great deal. Is inside of a castle. Certaldo Alto is a beautiful town, good restaurants nearby. Jane is on-site and very helpful, generous and welcoming.

Esperienza al di sopra di ogni aspettativa. L'appartamento è all'interno di una fortificazione medioevale, con affaccio sulla Valle. Pulitissimo e dotato di ogni servizio ha, di pertinenza, UNA TORRE! Fare colazione sulla sommità di una torre medioevale di avvistamento è davvero impagabile. Il silenzio e la pace sono garantiti dalla collocazione in un borgo antico ma non sfruttato dal turismo di massa

Il nostro soggiorno è stato molto gradevole, sopratutto per la possibilità di pranzare sulla torre, da cui è possibile un magnifico panorama. Unico appunto per chi venisse senza macchina: non ci sono alimentari/supermercati a Certaldo alto. L’host è stato molto gentile con noi, consigliamo questo appartamento.

Very safe location.

You‘ll get a private flat in a historic castle, which is located in the small, medieval town of Certaldo alto. It is really cool. Couple restaurants, we loved the pizzeria Messer de Boccaccio close by. Make sure to shop lots of water before you come, since the tap doesn‘t taste great and there are no grocery stores nearby. We really enjoyed our stay! Oh, highlight is the tower you have access to. Priceless sunsets with good Chianti wine up there

Nous avons passé une semaine exceptionnelle à Certaldo. Le village est magnifique, les habitants sont d'une gentillesse et d'une politesse propre aux Italiens. L'appartement était très grand, conforme à la description et d'une propreté impeccable. Madame Jane était très gentille et très aimable. Tout était parfait. Nous reviendrons sans hésité. Quelle belle région.

Unica mancanza pentole, posate e asciugamani non all'altezza del contesto. Però direi che tutto sommato non posso lamentarmi e mi è
passato bene la vacanza.

After the awkward check in, our stay was very comfortable. The apartment was in an ancient building, comfortable and perfectly located. It comes with its own tower, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine at sunset.

We had a great stay in Certaldo. The property was in a lovely site and sitting at the top of the tower watching the sun go down was very special. Jane was very helpful in suggesting good restaurants etc in the area to visit.

An outstanding apartment in a story-book location.

Aufenthalt für 9 Nächte. Die Unterkunft liegt mitten in Certaldo Alto in einem alten Palazzo. Mit der Wohnung kann der Turm des Palastes genutzt werden. Hervorragende Sicht auf Certald Alto, Certaldo Ort, in die Landschaft der Toscana bis San Gimignano.
Gastgeber freundlich und hilfsbereit. Verständigung auf Englisch war möglich.
Gastronomie in der Altstadt und im Ort reichlich vorhanden. Bahnhof innerhalb von 15 Minuten erreichbar, Verbindungen nach Siena/Florenz und Pisa stündlich.
Supermarkt (ca. 2 km) mit Auto erreichbar.

Nous avons été très bien accueillis: endroit propre, très bien situé, accès facile par le funiculaire, vue fantastique. Excellent séjour en Toscane!

Really enjoyed our stay!!

This is delightful apartment with a delightful host. The property is in excellent order and the views from the living room and bedroom are gorgeous. Great security as access to the courtyard is by remote controlled gate. Easy access with a car. At least two (we only ate at two; one twice) restaurants within 3 minutes walk of the front door. Highly recommended. Our only challenge was being unfamiliar with Italian addresses we found the property difficult to find as our GPS wouldn't accept the official address. Bill W. New Zealand.

"The setting of Certaldo Alto is a great spot for soaking in the culture of Tuscany. It was a medieval town and still has an air of antiquity about it. The Guesthouse Boccaccio was perfectly situated, just a few steps from an enoteca (wine bar) and less than 3 minutes' walk to several great restaurants and attractions. The views from our room and the surrounding castle were breathtaking. The owner is a nice lady and was very helpful to us while we stayed there. They arranged for us to be picked up at the train station via private car, and dropped off at the train station when we departed. Overall, I am well pleased with our stay in Certaldo.
Positive comment: The view from our room, the convenience to restaurants and attractions, the cleanliness of the room. We had a full kitchen but didn't really use it.
Negative Comment: The wifi signal was a little weak, but adequate. We had to climb a flight of stairs with our luggage, but nothing too difficult. I believe they have a room on the ground floor, but I'd check if you have mobility issues.
Try out the pizza at Da Messer Boccaccio - it was fantastic. Cap off the night at Enoteca Boccaccio (just across the street.) The nearby restaurant, Il Castello, has breathtaking views from the patio and great food. The owner (Ms. Jane) speaks some English, but if you know a bit of Italian you'll probably have an easier time communicating. Also, don't try to walk from the train station to the Guesthouse on foot, if you have bags - you'll have a hard time. Either arrange for a car/taxi or use the funiculare (small train that takes you up the hill.) Once you've left your bags, getting around is easy, but be aware there are some fairly steep hills to climb".

We enjoyed our stay at the Guesthouse immensely. It was the highlight of our trip to Italy and the Tuscany area. The owner, Jane, was the perfect host. The villa was five star accomodation in a ten star location. A very minor incovenience was not having a washing machine however this was overcome by using the laundromat next to the supermarket while we bought our groceries.

Our stay in Certaldo was amazing. The pictures on the site don't do this place justice. Wonderful location and we had everything we needed.

The apartment was fabulous and in a great location. Certaldo is not as touristy as other towns, so you can take advantage of the great restaurants, beautiful sights and architecture without the crowds. Certaldo is a great home base for exploring other nearby towns. We didn't rent a car, and got everywhere we wanted to go by train (the train station is within easy walking distance of the apartment). Jane the owner was very helpful, and the apartment itself was wonderful.

Un acceuil extraordinaire. L'appartement est situé dans un palais lui même au coeur d' un superbe petit village médiéval perché et positionné idéalement entre toutes les curiosités de la Toscane. Accès au village des véhicules réglementes, parking privé dans la cour du palais, funiculaire pour descendre dans la nouvelle ville, terrasse commune au sommet d'une tour du palais avec vue à 360 degrés sur la Toscane. Appartement vaste très propre, tout confort. L'accueil par la propriétaire est fantastique, tout les plans nécessaire pour la toscane sont disponible en arrivant dans l'appartement ainsi que 2 bouteilles de vin de bienvenue ! La propriétaire a même invité l'ensemble des occupants des différents appartements dans un restaurant gargantuesque où nous avons passé un moment inoubliable!

We spent four wonderful days at this villa in April. It was very easy to get to, whether by car or train. The villa was clean, spacious, airy and had all that we needed. The tower terrace where we could sit and relax also gave great views of the surrounding countryside. We hired a car locally to explore other towns. Certaldo Alto had plenty of charm of its own and it was such a treat in such a small village to find a good selection of restaurants, cafes and gelato bars to choose from. Jane went above all expectations. Our luggage was delayed and we were without clothes for three days. She was willing to lend T-shirts to our son. Her husband was willing to drive us to the station on our departure day because the funicular didn't operate that early.

Beautyfull landscape and architecture, we were treated like king and queen, so close to transportation yet so far from tourist joint, this place was more than just a one night stand! Appartment is so comfortable and clean, people are so nice. Reserve early and get an appartment here you will remember all your life. Stay several days and take the train to Firenze or Sienna (leave the car there, it is so easy with the train) and don't forget Sangimigiano! ... so much to see in Toscany! Start with Certaldo Alto!

El lugar excepcional, los acceso con el resto de la Toscana muy buenos. La calidad humana de los propietarios y las atenciones recibidas por su parte, maravillosas. Se agradece muchísimo.
Si quieres disfrutar de la Toscana, pero relajarte a partir de cierta hora de la tarde, cenar y disfrutar de un lugar fuera de este mundo, casi como si estuvieses ne la Edad Media, ... No lo dudes, además te acogerán como a un amigo.

Wspaniałe miejsce w starym miasteczku na wzgórzu, piękny widok z apartamentu na miasto (nowe Certaldo) a z sypialni na prawdziwą Toskanię (winnice i gaje oliwne-zdjęcie dołączone do komentarza). Stare Certaldo w którym położony jest apartament ujął nas swoim sielskim klimatem i zabytkami na wyciągnięcie ręki (m.in. dom w którym mieszkał Boccacio-twórca Dekamerona). Właściciele bardzo pomocni, przyjaźni i kompetentni.

Très bon accueil. Calme, authentique, bon rapport qualité prix. Bel endroit très bien situé pour séjourner et découvrir la Toscane environnante. La pizzéria situé près du gîte est à recommander.

Glorious surroundings, absolutely fabulous welcome. Just amazing. The owner picked us up from the train station, his wife is lovely, a real character. She introduced us to the townsfolk and we couldn't have been made more welcome, in too many ways to say here. I am a single parent travelling with my teenage sons and they made us feel like we had found a second home - everywhere you look is beuaty and you are surrounded by warm, lovely people. Magnifico! The Palace is the most beautiful place I've ever been - really. Amazing. The funiculor is exquisite - obviously I can't praise this place highly enough.
